Herbert Preston Stansbury

DURHAM – Herbert Preston Stansbury, 76, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, peacefully at his home. Born in Durham to the late Charles Preston Stansbury and Rosa Marie Price. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Michael Stansbury and Roy Shelton Price, his bonus mom, Sarah Worsham Stansbury, and his first wife, Delores Everitt Stansbury.
Preston was born and raised in Durham, where he spent most of his life. During his youth, he and his family briefly lived in Daytona Beach, and for the past two decades he made his home in Stem, NC.
He devoted his entire career to telecommunications, beginning in the warehouse at GTE and eventually advancing into management at Nortel.
Preston grew up attending Fellowship Baptist Church, where he was saved and sang in the choir. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending time with friends playing pool, and later discovered a passion for artistic pursuits such as drawing and wood crafting- an interest he shared with his father and his brother, Mike.
As he grew older, family became increasingly important to him. He reached out to extended relatives, worked diligently on genealogy, and even began a family newsletter.
Throughout his life, Preston had a deep love of music, a trait he passed on to his children and grandchildren. It was rare to find him without something playing softly in the background.
Mr. Stansbury is survived by his wife, Tina Stansbury, his son, John Preston Stansbury, his daughter, Jennifer Stansbury (Jeff) Watson, his daughter-in-law, Dana Wadford Stansbury, his grandchildren, Justin Chase Stansbury, Brooklyn Marie Stansbury, Hailey Marie Watson, his great-grandchild, Beau-Michael Joyce, his brother, Timothy Thomas Price and his in-laws, Darnell and Janie Wolfe.
