Herbert Walberg Jr.
April 10, 1941 - March 7, 2025
Herbert Walberg Jr. was born to Herbert and Clara Walberg, in Biwabik, Minn., on April 10, 1941. The first born, he grew up with his siblings Curt, Claudia, Rodger, and Wendie near the North Shore of Lake Superior. During his school years, he had eyes upon LaDean Sheldon and on December 17, 1960, they were married. For 64-plus years, they built their relationship with Godly principles, loving each other, their son, Scott, daughter, Shari and their families.
Herb's career included several managerial positions in northern Minnesota and the Minnesota Credit Union League. His employment career concluded as president and CEO of the Montana Credit Union Network for 28 years, retiring in 2001.
Herb's second career began at Glacier Bible Camp in the summer of 2001 and continued for 19 years. Herb and LaDean volunteered their time and talents to the upkeep and operation of the 48-acre property located on the Flathead River in Hungry Horse, Mont. Many winters found them in the warmer climate of Arizona, returning in the spring to Helena, their hometown base of 52 years.
Herb had three families: his biological, the credit union movement, and the family of God. In all three he served with integrity, grace, and love. Notes of encouragement from Herb were sent throughout the United States uplifting countless people. In the last two years of his life, Touchmark and the Cancer Treatment Center of St. Peter's Health became his fourth family, lovingly caring for him on his journey with leukemia, for which his family is eternally grateful.
On March 7, 2025, Herb entered Heaven and heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant" from his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Herb is survived by his wife, LaDean; son, Scott (Michele) of Turner, Ore.; and daughter, Shari (Wayde) Peterson of Montana City; grandchildren, Mariesa (Matt) Holm, Bree'anna Walberg, Celeste Walberg, Christian (Madi) Peterson, Britton (Melanie) Peterson, Taylor (Faith) Peterson, and Brennan Peterson; great-grandchildren, Holly Holm, Ryden Holm, Areli Peterson, and Haven Peterson.
The Walberg family welcomes you to join them for visitation at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held at Echo Church (1st Assembly of God) at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March 15.
