MIDDLEBURY - Herbert B. Wright, age 60, unexpectedly passed away on January 21st, 2026, in Middlebury, VT.
He was born on January 16th, 1966, in Richford VT, to Caroline (Combs) Rivers and the late Raymond Wright.
As a skilled upholsterer, Herbert had a remarkable talent for breathing new life into furniture, turning bits of wood and fabric into cherished pieces that brought joy to many. His hands and heart created beauty, and each stitch carried his passion for craftsmanship. Beyond work, Herbert found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially on the golf course, where his friends and family will fondly remember him swinging clubs and sharing laughs. His spirit shone even brighter during moments spent working on vehicles with his son, Jeremey. Herbert taught Jeremey how to drive on the winding back roads and was one of the many ways Herbert imparted his wisdom and love. Herbert cherished the relationships in his life, especially his nephew, Derrick Tessier, who brought him immense joy and pride. Herbert also worked closely with his friend Dave Gale to create fine boat interiors and custom awnings. They began working together at Otter Creek Awnings in Middlebury, VT, before they forged their own path that would lead them to establish their own business together, enriching the local manufacturing landscape and demonstrating their commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Herbert was also known for his fondness for blackberry brandy, which often accompanied conversations and good-natured banter.
Herbert is survived by his son, Jeremey Wright and his wife, Phaygan; grandchildren, Bentlee Wright and Cameron Wright; siblings, Raymond Wright and his wife Mary, and Caroline Elkins; nieces and nephews, Derrick Tessier, Korey Wright, Jennifer Cooper and her husband Kevin, Amy Wright and her significant other Richard Delisle, Hayley Tracy, Matthew Raymond Jr., Jodie Combs Jr., Julie Combs, Jelissa Combs, Jorden Combs, Wyatt Cooper, and Larry Elkins; beloved nephew, Derrick Tessier; friend, Dave Gale and his wife Laurie.
In respecting Herbert’s wishes, no services will be held. Interment will be held privately in the spring.
