I remember as a child he was part of the Yauco club & a friend of my father Edicer Sanchez.He was always a humbled leader in the community. R.I.P

Dear Mrs. Badillo:

I am writing to extend my deepest sympathies on the loss of your husband and dear friend, Herman. I deeply respected his commitment to a life of public service and his enduring dedication to improving the lives of the underserved in New York City. I also appreciated his ability to remain open to new ideas as the needs of his beloved city and our country shifted. His flexibility, however, was always based on principle, never on the pragmatic whims of an opportunistic politician. As a result, he continues to be an inspiration to Puerto Rican-American youth, and I am convinced that his determination and perseverance are lessons for aspiring Puerto Ricans everywhere. I often voted with Herman on civil rights issues, housing legislation and educational reforms when he and I both served in Congress. He was a great American and a good man.

There is little I can say to ease the pain of your loss right now. May your faith, and the great outpouring of love from family and dear friends help you through this trying time. You can take comfort in knowing that Herman's memory and example will live forever in American history and especially among all those who knew and loved him.

With heavy hearts and deep regrets we say goodbye to a greatly adored self-made man. No one can argue that Herman Badillo loved the people in his community and worked endlessly to help them receive benefits that they needed and ones that were well deserved. Indeed, such a man's life story is indelibly stored in God's memory for certainly Herman is precious in God's eyes.

I AM OSKAR BECHLER OF HAWAII, I KNEW HERMANN BADILLO THROUGH IRMA DEUTSCH LIEBLING IN RIVERDALE, WHEN THEY GOT MARRIED I HAD A SPECIAL DINNER IN MY APT IN RIVER DALE N.Y THEY GOT MARRIED IN QUEENS BY AN RABI AND I WAS THERE WITH IRMAS FRIEND RITA, I LOVED HERMANN, MET HIS AUNT IN SAN JUAN AND CALLES HIM SOME TIME AGO, HE SAID THE HOUSE IN RIVERDALE WAS SOLD AND WORK FOR A LAW FIRM, AND GOT MARIED TO GAIL, I WORK IN HARLEM WHEN HERMANN RUN FOR OFFICE, I KNOW HIS LIFE LIKE A BOOK, IN 1973 I MOVED TO CALIFORNIA, WE LOST TOUCH IAM AM 85 AND SO WAS HE. SORRY LEFT US FOR A BETTER WORLD, HERANN WAS KIND AND A SMART FIGHTER FOR AMERICA AND HIS NATIVE ISLAND PUERTO RICO, I WAS WITH HIM IN THE 6O YEARS AND FOLLOWED HIM WITH A BRIEF CASE. LIKE I SHOULD BE HIS PROMOTER, THE PLACE WAS THE OLD OSKAR MAMMERSTEIN THEATER ON HERALDS SQUARE, A LADY MAYOR FRON SAN JUAN WAS WITH HIM AT THE TIME ALSO IN PUERTO RICA IN LA CONCHA HOTEL I KNOW LOUREN LIEBLING IN HONOLULU AND MARK LIEBLING IN NASHUA N.
