A man of many talents and interests, Herman was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, loved to travel, and was musically gifted—playing piano and singing with the New City Quartet.

Survivors include his son, Troy Burges of Grand Saline; daughter, Marcella Smith and husband Derek of Shreveport, LA; stepson, James Wilson and wife Angie of Forney; four grandchildren, Mandy Carroll of Grand Saline, Brittany Pugh of Tyler, Jonathan Phelps of Bossier City, LA; and Emily Kemp of Austin; four great-grandchildren, Julian Coonrod of Shreveport, Raleigh Brundidge of Tyler, Jack Coonrad of Shreveport, and Rythem Belvail of Tyler; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Grady Smith, Ernest Veach, Steve Stamper, Danny Hollis, Alan Perry, and David Bullock.
