Herman C. Groehler Jr., 92, passed away on February 9, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Herman was born on July 23, 1933, to Agnes and Herman Groehler in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin. He was one of nine children raised on the family dairy farm. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, spending his days milking cows, weeding fields, and helping wherever he was needed. The strong work ethic and resilience he developed in his youth remained with him throughout his life.

He proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and attended technical school in Texas, where he trained as a recip engine mechanic. He was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho in the early 1950s. He often shared the story of choosing Mountain Home after hearing how beautiful Idaho was and that the base was located in the mountains — only to arrive and discover the ever-present wind that “never stopped.” After arriving at Mountain Home, the last recip plane left the base, thus they sent him back to tech school to become a jet engine mechanic. While in mountain home he went on a blind date and met the love of his life, Carolyn E. Trail. On Oct 27th 1956 they married.

Following his military service, Herman continued his commitment to his country through the Idaho Air National Guard until his retirement. After his retirement from IANG, he then spent 15 years working as a maintenance man at Boise Samaritan Village, where his skills, reliability, and willingness to help were deeply appreciated.

Herman was a man of many talents and was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was kind, steady, and always willing to lend a hand. His quiet strength, generous heart, and dependable nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Herman is survived by his Son, Norman (Jody) Groehler, Notus Id- Daughter, Christine (Willie) Groehler-Johnson Boise Id- Grandchildren, Sarah Williams, Dan (Lynnette) Hunter, Matthew Anderson. Great-Grandchildren, Bryon and Emma Stansell.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Rochelle, RN, for keeping us grounded; to Heather, NP, for her compassionate care; and to his daughters friends and colleagues at Horizon Hospice. We never fully understand how much hospice helps families until we find ourselves on the family side. Hospice truly matters, and we are forever grateful for all you do.

A committal service will be held, 1:00 pm, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise, Idaho. A reception gathering will follow at the Church of the Brethren, 2823 N. Cole Road, Boise, Idaho 83704.

His loving wife will be interred with him.

Herman will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved him.
