Herman W. Gruebner, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
Herman was born on December 19, 1935 in Michigan to Herman and Dorthea Gruebner. On
June 2, 1956 he married Joan Strauss. Together they shared just shy of 70 blessed years
together.
Herman graduated from East Detroit High School in 1953. While in high school he started
working for National Lumber and continued in the industry, retiring in 1997 as a National Sales
Director for Atlas Energy Products. He was a long time member of the LFA (Lutheran
Fraternities of America) and was involved in many capacities at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in
East Pointe, MI before moving out of state. Being a man with strong faith, he continued serving
in many leadership positions while attending St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Charles, IL. He
also enjoyed tennis, bowling, golf and hockey.
Herman is survived by his wife Joan Gruebner, and children Diane (Joel) Murphy of
Bloomington, IL, Donna (John) Williams of Sigourney, IA and David (Lisa) Gruebner of Honolulu,
HI.
Herman had 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. His grandchildren are Jared
(Samantha) Murphy, Jason (Katie) Murphy, Jaclyn Murphy, Brian (Nicole) Chandler, Stacy
(Chase) Hagen, Sean Gruebner and Todd Gruebner. His great-grandchildren are Keira,
Brayden, Raelyn, Cooper, Wyatt, Elise and Henry.
He is also survived by his brother, Bruce (Sandy) Gruebner.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Karen Meininger.
Visitation will be held at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles, IL on Friday, January 30, 2026 from
4-7 PM. Service will be held at St Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Charles, IL on Saturday,
January 31, 2026 at 11 AM with a visitation from 10-11 AM at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or St. Mark's
