Herman Bailey Reid Jr.

Herman Bailey Reid, Jr., 72, of Star City, passed away on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 at his residence after a long illness with his family by his side.
Herman was born on May 28, 1953 in Morgantown, WV, a son of the late Herman Bailey Reid, Sr. and the late Rose Barill Reid.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Patricia "Patty" Oliverio Reid; his son, Frank Reid and his wife Carly of Orlando, FL; Zippy Shearer and Kim Walker of Morgantown, TerriLynn Pryor and husband Eric of Morgantown; and his grandchildren, Knox Reid, Zippy Shearer, V and his wife Andrea, Sydney Shearer Dixon and her husband Dom, Sierra Pryor, Xavier Pryor, and Grace Wilferd.
First and foremost, he was a very strong and dedicated family man. He fought hard through his illnesses to be able to have as much time with his family as he could. He adored his wife, his children and grandchildren and cherished every single moment he spent with them.
Herman spent 45 years in public service as a police officer with four different departments including the Morgantown City Police, Atlanta City Police, Monongalia County Sheriff's Department and finally with West Virginia University Police Department where he retired from. He spent eight years as mayor of the town of Star City, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Herman loved riding his motorcycle, and having his camping time in his old motor home.
Friends may join the family to honor Herman's life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover, on Saturday, December 20th where a celebration of his life will be held from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
