Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Mortuary - Las Vegas on Aug. 14, 2024.
Herman Sandoval Jr. was born on March 25, 1945, to the late Herman and Mary (Simmie) Sandoval. Surrounded by his two sons, Herman passed away at his home on August 1, 2024.
Herman retired from Highlands University and loved spending his time with his friends. He spent his life doing the things he loved, which included playing both hardball and softball. His brother (Big A) founded the semi-pro Hawks baseball team in 1965. After a period, Herman took over the Hawks and had the privilege to coach and play with his four brothers, Andrew/Big A, Mario, Leroy/Wizard, and Jimmy/Cricket, to include some of the best players of this period, Jake Yara, Tom Huie, Charlie Kueffer, and Benjie Lucero, to name a few. The teams' talents and sharp baseball skills were talked about by many and certainly by Herman's sons and grandkids.
When he wasn't playing ball, he was sitting in the stands watching little league and high school games. If you were at a baseball game in town, chances are you could find Herman and his friend Sunny in the outfield watching. He enjoyed watching the Robertson High School baseball team because he got to watch his son Kenny Sandoval coach, and his grandsons play the game he loved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Sandoval Sr., his mother, Mary (Simmie) Sandoval, his brother, Jimmie (Cricket) Sandoval, grandson William Aragon, and his granddaughter Jennae Sandoval.
He is survived by his children Eric (Nadine) Sandoval, Kenneth, Carmela and April Sandoval, Christine (Steve) Encinias, and Josephine Quintana.
Herman's siblings Andrew (Jane) Sandoval, Ana (Moises) Gutierrez, Eva Sandoval, MaryAnn (Joe) Lopez, Mario (Debbie) Sandoval, Leroy (Lorreta) Sandoval, and Rosie (Debbie) Sandoval.
Herman's grandchildren Nathan (Deanna) Sandoval, Brandon (Emilee) Sandoval, Natasha, and Brian Sandoval; Kenna and Kendra Sandoval; Davisa, Davette, and David II Montoya, Estevan (Victoria) Montoya, Naquita (Anthony Sr) Montoya, Mariquita Montoya, Roman and Romayne Sandoval; Jessica (Andrew) Garcia, Stephanie (Levy) Encinias, Ashley (Anthony) Madrid and Steven (Angelina) Encinias; Anthony (Destinee) Aragon, Andrew (Ashley) Aragon, C.J (Brayan) Apodaca; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
Before Herman took his last breaths, he wanted people to know that he had gone on vacation, that he really enjoyed it, and that he was not coming back. At Herman's request, a private celebration of his life will be held later at the beautiful land his parents established for the family.
