Hilda Cotter Kohl, age 88, of Nashville, TN, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 26th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Hilda was born October 8th, 1936, in Cedar Hill, TN to the late Dr. Francis Joseph and Mattie Holman Cotter. She grew up in Springfield, TN with her nine siblings, and graduated from Springfield High School where she played the French horn in the marching band. She later moved to Nashville where she attended junior college and met her husband Edward Hardeman Kohl.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ed of 64 years and is survived by her eight children, Debbie (Toni), Kim (Mike), Vicky (Joel), Michael (Marian), Pam (Jon), Pat (Dennis), Jeff (Mariam), Shawn (Jenny), 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was employed by Bellevue Presbyterian Church Early Education for 25 years where she retired as director. Hilda was a devout member of Saint Henry Catholic Church where for over a decade she served as the Funeral Coordinator, a Eucharistic Minister and recognized by the Saint Henry Women’s Club with the Henrietta Award in 2005 for her faithful service to the parish. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary praying the Rosary daily.
Hilda enjoyed spending time with her large family especially during the holidays, trips to the beach, singing, playing piano, painting, weekends on Johnson’s Creek, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame football. She also enjoyed traveling overseas with friends and relatives. She could also be seen regularly at Sperry’s Restaurant.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She was incredibly proud of all her children and grandchildren. Her big smile and sense of humor will be missed by so many.
Visitation with the family will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church Sunday, November 3rd, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Monday, November 4th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a Mass of the Resurrection Monday, November 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Henry. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are nephews Larry and Jack LaRoy.
