Hilda Lamb Sawyer

Hilda Lamb Sawyer, age 96, of Elizabeth City, NC (formerly of Newland Township), died at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. She was born in Pasquotank County, NC, on November 17, 1929, to the late Clyde Harold Lamb and Minnie Combs Lamb. She was the widow of Bruce Edward Sawyer, her husband for 70 years. A member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church, Hilda worked as a bookkeeper for First Citizens Bank until her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Jennings (Ronny); two sons, Billy Sawyer (Wendy) and Wade Sawyer (Barbara); six grandchildren, Jerry Jennings (Dottie), Dawn Drinkwater (Brendan), Will Sawyer, Tabitha Sawyer (Ivan), Matthew Sawyer, and Barbara McPherson; and eleven great-grandchildren, Caroline, Jake, Briley, Vivian, Clay, Wyatt, Emma, Vincent, Alex, Haillie, and Mary. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Vera Harris and Betty Thompson; four brothers, James Lamb, Robert Lamb, Calvin Lamb, and Lester Lamb; and a granddaughter, Amanda Sawyer.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ken Littleton officiating. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery.
