Hilde DeLong

Hilde DeLong, 94, passed from this life fully assured of eternal life through Jesus Christ on July 2, 2022. She had lived for nearly 60 years in her home on Littleton St. in Fair Park before moving to Marion Manor in 2018. Hilde was born in Totnau, Germany on January 8, 1928 to Joseph and Anna Grabmier.
She grew up in Munich, Germany where she met her future husband of 58 years, James Douglas DeLong, while swimming at a local lake. He was serving in the United States Army-Air Force and stationed in Munich. They were married there on August 23, 1947. She returned with her husband and new daughter to the United States in December of 1948. They lived near family in Kentucky before moving to Marion in 1950. They purchased their new home in Fair Park in July of 1959. James passed away on May 20, 2006.
Hilde was very proud of becoming a United States citizen. She embraced her role as wife, mother, and homemaker in her new homeland. She faithfully attended the First Church of the Nazarene before health prevented her. She loved eating lunch out with her family. She greatly enjoyed playing scrabble and watching golf on TV. She treasured the trips she was able to take with Doug over the years. In 1977 she was able to visit her father in Germany for the first time since coming to the United States in 1948.Her mother had passed away in 1961. She was a wonderful cook, to which all of her grandchildren could attest. She enjoyed nothing more than sitting in her front patio with family on a nice day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Curtis and Nora DeLong, son-in-law, Marvin Welty, and her husband who she always called Doug. She is survived by a daughter, Diana (DeLong) Welty of Delaware, OH., and son, Curtis (Monica) DeLong of Marion, OH., grandchildren, David (Brittany) Arnold, Joy (Travis) Fordham, Lori (Jason) Fish, Aimee DeLong, Benjamin (Irene) DeLong, & Kimberly DeLong, and great grandchildren, Liam, Graham, Emma, Holden, Elliott, & Michael, along with special friends, Jack, Naomi, & Sharon.
The family will be receiving friends at the Boyd Funeral Home on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 12:00 Noon until service time at 1:00 PM. Hilde's son, Pastor Curtis DeLong will conduct the service with burial to follow in the Marion Cemetery. Contributions in Hilde's name may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene.
