Hildegard M Johnson

Hildegard M. Johnson, age 84, a long time resident of Hoffman Estates, IL, and most recently a resident of Sunrise of Schaumburg, passed away on Monday February 9, 2026. She now joins her beloved husband, Wayne, in eternal life.

Hilda was born on March 9, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, to Erwin and Angeline Naegele. She spent her early years growing up on the north side of Chicago.

Hilda found joy in serving in her church, bowling, water aerobics, and traveling the world. She found tremendous joy in visiting new places and was fortunate to have traveled to many exciting and exotic locations: an African safari in the Serengeti, the Great Wall of China, the Galapagos Islands, the ruins at Machu Picchu, many destinations throughout Europe, as well as extensive travel throughout the United States. Hilda and Wayne also spent significant time traveling to nationwide car meets with their beloved Studebakers and met countless friends along the way. She was especially fond of cocktail hour and trips to the casino with her sister, although never venturing beyond the nickel slots! Hilda was especially known for her sense of humor, quick wit (her favorite quote and words she lived by were, "You can't fix stupid"), generosity, and devotion to her family. She deeply valued time with her family and friends and was famous for hosting Christmas every year – she leaves behind many cherished memories.

Hilda is survived by many nieces and nephews (Dan, Heather, Ken, Susan, Tony, Kathy, Karen, Mitch, Lynne, Ed), numerous great nieces and nephews (Eric, Brian, Betsy, Marie, Jordan, Fin, Andrew, Julie, Jennifer, Jessica, Joey, Daniella, Hayley, Jake), and five great-great nephews (Warren, Carter, Jackson, Camden, Teddy). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wayne, parents Erwin and Angeline Naegele, sister Christine and brother-in-law Ernest Heckenbach, nephew Kevin Heckenbach and brother and sister-in-law Art and Nancy Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday February 16 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg. There will be a visitation beginning at 10:00 am followed by a worship service at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
