Hildegard Karlin

Hildegard Hubel Karlin, 85, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away one day shy of her 86th birthday, January 23, 2024.
She was born January 24, 1938 in Germany, daughter of Peter and Johanna Rausch Hubel.
Mrs. Karlin escaped Germany at a young age during the Holocaust into Europe.
She eventually made her way to the United States, graduating from the University of Miami with degrees in Arts and Science.
Mrs. Karlin traveled throughout the world, speaking five languages (German, Jewish, French, Spanish and English), and earned her United States citizenship in 1969.
She lived many places throughout the United States with her husband, Arthur Karlin, as he served as a professor at several colleges.
Mrs. Karlin owned and managed a hotel in Michigan. Along with her husband they began the Arthur David and Hildegard Karlin Foundation for four universities, three in the United States and one in Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mrs. Karlin had no immediate survivors.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. She will be in state from 5-6 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C. by DeVol Funeral Home.
