Hildegard Morgan

Hildegard Morgan, of Simsbury, CT died peacefully with her daughters at her bedside on, Friday, (January 10, 2025). Born Hildegard Sans on May 9, 1926 in Mannheim Germany, Hildegard moved to the United States after World War II with her fiancé John Morgan who was serving as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2014. After settling in Hartford, Hildegard worked at the Aetna first cleaning, but providentially she had an opportunity to demonstrate her keen business, organizational and typing skills, and was immediately promoted to a secretary where she flourished and made many lifelong friends. She also worked as a German Translator in the Hartford court system. While raising their three children, Hildegard became known for her hard work, incredible cooking and baking skills and dedication to the church. She was very active in several parishes and loved serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Hildegard and John were very active in both the German and Portuguese clubs and passed on many of the old-world traditions to their children. Desiring to share their success in achieving the American dream, Hildegard and John sponsored several family members from Germany and Portugal on their journey to American citizenship. In her final years she made many close friends at her assisted living home in Simsbury. Her indomitable spirit, love of God, generous heart and enduring love for her family will be sorely missed. Hildegard is survived by her two living children and their spouses: Sheila & Kerry Sabella and Annette & Wayne Shelbrack, as well as her grandchildren and their spouses or fiancés Rachel and Mark Ross, Michele Shelbrack and Trevor Crookes, James Shelbrack and Lorena Emanuel, Shauna Morgan, Sarah Morgan, Stacie and Elijah Mickelson and Sean and Gillian Sabella, and her 9 great-grandchildren, Christian, Mackenzie and Hailey Shelbrack, Benjamin Ross, Lilly Crookes, Eden and Anna Mickelson and Annania and River Sabella. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Morgan and her husband John Morgan and her three younger siblings Leo, Bernhardt and Maria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 24, 2025, 9:30 AM at Saint Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow St, Simsbury. A reception will follow the Mass at Valley Community Baptist Church, 590 West Avon Rd., Avon. A family Burial will occur later in the day.
