Hilton Matthews Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Krause Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Inc. - Capitol Drive on Jan. 20, 2026.
Hilton Matthews, age 92, passed away on January 2, 2026.

Affectionately known as Matt, he was born on May 8th, 1933, to the union of Arthur Matthews and Clemmie Thompson in El Dorado, Arkansas. Matt attended Mt Holly AME School in Arkansas. At age 20, Hilton enlisted in the army and proudly served his country during the Korean War, honoring his commitment to service and duty. After the army he worked as a machinist until an injury forced him to retire at the age of 54. Matt was the handyman to family, friends and neighbors. Matt enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan, with a special love for golf, something he could happily watch for hours. He will be remembered for the life he lived and the many generations who will carry on his legacy.

Matt leaves to cherish his fond memory, four children, Phyllis, Theresa, Nathan (Teresa) and

Lisa. He was most proud to be a grandpa. Matt had seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He also leaves behind his longtime partner of 31 years Catherine O'Connor, along with her son Patrick O'Connor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Matt will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Matt was preceded in death by his father Arthur, mother Clemmie, sisters Marie Fleming,

Rosie Springer, Mozell Matthews, and brothers Robert and Willard Matthews.

Dad,

Days have come and gone

Now you are finally home

Open arms were waiting for you

There's nothing left for you to do. You are home.

Love,

your family
