Hogan Essien Obong, 67, was called home to the Lord suddenly on December 4, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Hogan was born in Ikot Obong, Nigeria on January 26, 1955, to parents Mr. and Mrs. Sunday Essien Udofia, grandfather Chief Essien Udofia of the family Nnung Obong Akpeng. He was cared for by his uncle Reverend Samuel Obong (and wife Margaret Obong), who were like a father and mother to him.
Hogan became a US citizen in 2013 and was a hard-working man, but no job was more important than husband, father and family man. He never met a stranger, and had a smile that lit up the room. He was lucky to count Bangi Ejindu and Gabriel Agbaike as life-long friends. He was an avid sports fan; most notably, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Hogan wed his lovely wife Cheryl on August 16, 1980. He has two daughters from his union and two grandchildren.
Hogan was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Sunday Essien Obong and Rev. Samuel Obong. Hogan is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughters Michelle (Tim) Smith, Lauren (Matt) Krella, aunt Margaret Obong, sisters Darrah Obong Okeke, Ruth Obong, Blessing Obong Wyatt, Emilia Obong Carter, brothers Essien Obong, Emanuel Obong, and James Obong, and his grandchildren Zoe and Evan Smith. He also had many nieces, nephews and extended family. Hogan was loved by many and will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends on December 16, 2022 from 11am-12pm at Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes, 4341 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
