HOLLIS LLEWELLYN Obituary

U.S. Army Retired Staff Sergeant Hollis O Llewellyn, 88, of Addison, N.Y. passed away Sunday July 30th, at the Bath VA. Hollis believed in commitment to family and service to his country.
Hollis was a career military man in the United States Army and remained Army until the end. Hollis served in Korea, Germany and three tours in Viet Nam, only signing up for the third tour to avoid having to be a "teacher" here in the U.S. to the younger military. He was a Tactical Electronics Maintenance Chief "Hot Shot repairman," specializing in Field Radio Equipment. Hollis received the following medals for his service: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with eight Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Signal Corp Badge, Good Conduct Medal Fifth Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Rifle M-14 Badge, Rifle M-1 Badge, Marksman (rifleM-16), Marksman (hand grenade), Tet Counter-Offensive, Vietnam Counteroffensive Phases IV, V, VI & VII, Vietnam Summer-Fall, Vietnam Winter-Spring, Sanctuary Counteroffensive, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Hollis also competed and won 2nd Place Medals for 50 Caliber Machine Gun in Military Olympiads of which he was very proud.
Hollis was an excellent athlete and held many track records for years in high school and always enjoyed a good game of baseball at "Thorn Apple Stadium" in Freeman.
Hollis was a sharp dresser and an avid card and pool player, devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Giants and Bills and only when overseas did he miss the Elkland Softball Tournament held annually Labor Day weekend. He was a member of various military and fraternal organizations such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Loyal Order of the Moose, and was a member of the Addison Eagles Club, where his friends were like extended family.
Hollis is survived by his brother Terry; sisters- in-law Audrey (Jack), Jeanette (Reggie) and Donna (Rickey); his nieces and nephews Nikki, Bret (Dawn), Gregg (Suzi), Sonya (Rob English), Tara McIntyre, Chrissy, and Laura Llewellyn, and six great-nephews and his "Damn Cat."
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank R and Lousie Oakden Llewellyn, and his brothers, Jack, Reg, & Rick.
Burial with military honors in the family plot at Baxter Cemetery will be held for family only.
Celebrations of Hollis' life for family and friends are being planned for Saturday September 16, noon – 2 p.m. at Campbell Legion and September 17, noon - 2 p.m. at the Elkland Moose Lodge (it would have been Hollis' 89th birthday).
The family expresses gratitude to the dedicated VA HBPC nurses and OT who assist him living in his own home for as long as safely possible and the Rehabilitation and Medical team at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath, N.Y.
Donations can be made in Hollis' name to the Bath VA Medical Center, Attn: Voluntary Services, 76 Veterans Ave., Bath NY 14810. Of those donations 100% goes to veterans, or a charity of your choice.
