TO Homer's Family and Friends,
In 1999 I wrote a story for the Daily Globe about Christmas in Ironwood in the Thirties. Soon after, I received a letter from a Homer "Biz" Marander who introduced himself to me. He wrote that he enjoyed my article so much "that he went to the Dale Carnegie Library, made copies and sent them to his relatives." From that day on, we became letter writers going back and forth. In 2001 my wife and I went to a all class reunion and had breakfast with "Biz." It was a fun meeting to see my letter correspondent over the past two years in person.
Both he and I, having been army infantrymen in different wars, (W II and Korea) gave us a lot to write about that part of our lives. "Biz" would fill me in on the happenings in Ironwood, and his visits to the Veteran's Hospital in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He was quite knowledgeable about the history of our fine hometown. I learned a lot about my correspondent friend over the years, who was a fine Christian, hard working man who always kept himself busy. I don't know where his nickname came from, but it could be from his always busy self.
"Biz" is now with the Lord and I am sure he is being welcomed in a Heaven as a huge addition. He will be missed by all who knew him, and sadly he is missed by me. My condolences go to his family.

Uncle Homer,
You had broad shoulders, and a broad smile.... You helped us through the worst possible times in our lives as you did for many others. We love you, and we will miss you. Pammie Pjammie
