Homer Alfred Warden, 73, of Beckley, West Virginia, died Monday, February 12, 2024, at Bowers Hospice House, following a long illness.
The son of Homer R. Warden and Bessie Faye Greene (Peraldo) Warden, Homer was born January 5, 1951, in Beckley, West Virginia. On February 14, 1974, he married Janet R. Calfee. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on Valentine’s Day.
Homer served in the National Guard in the 1970s. He also attended Beckley College and Marshall University and was licensed as a master electrician. Homer spent most of his adult life working at Kroger stores throughout southern West Virginia. He worked in various positions within the company, spending the majority of his grocery career as a meat-cutter.
Friends and family remember Homer’s generous spirit and willingness to share his knowledge of woodworking, automotive and electrical repair, construction, and general handiwork. He enjoyed tool and car shows, tractors, and hardware stores.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Fleming, Lucille Wright, Sue Harley, and Martha Hicks; and a brother, Wayne Warden.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet, of Beckley; a brother, Henry Peraldo of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Sharon Matherly, and her husband, John, of Beckley; son Robert R. Warden, of Beckley; and son Alan C. Warden and his wife, Yuzhu “Judy” Huang Warden, and their children, Meiling, Amelia, and William, all of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews.
The Warden family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia and to nurse practitioner Robin Cox at CAMC Cancer Center - Beckley.
A funeral service will take place Monday, February 19, at 1 p.m., at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, with John Neel officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Memorial contributions may be made to West Virginia Public Broadcasting or the Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1968 Scholarship Fund through Beckley Area Foundation.
