N. Hope Stubbs

Hope Stubbs, 92, of Roseburg passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at home. The oldest of 3 children, Hope was born on October 14, 1933, in Roseburg to Charles and Clara Galla Stubbs. She grew up in the Melrose area, attending local schools and graduating from Roseburg High in 1951. She learned to play the Hawaiian steel guitar at a young age, and by her teens she played for church services and accompanied local singing groups for a radio show.

After high school graduation, she moved to Portland and attended several colleges including Pacific Bible College (Warner Pacific), Lewis and Clark College, and Portland State College. She graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 1957 with high honors, earning a B.A. degree, majoring in speech and arts. While in college, she participated in theater groups and toured the country with a thespian group performing Christian plays. She held various jobs in the Portland area before returning to Roseburg in 1970.

Hope was employed at Engle Construction Co. for 13 years as secretary, bookkeeper, and office manager. Hope loved God, honesty, flowers (particularly orchids and irises), her family, her friends, and all animals including her pet cats. She enjoyed traveling, photography, reading, nature hikes, and live theater. Hope was a caring, compassionate person and a faithful, loving sister and aunt.

Surviving is her brother, Jack Stubbs; sister, Charlene Thompson; nieces, Teresa Thompson, Nicki Staggs, Tiffani Ferguson, Jayci Thompson, and TaiAnn Williams; nephews, Todd Thompson and Aaron Thompson. Preceding her in death are her parents, brother-in-law, LV Thompson, and nephew Eddie Staggs. Private services will be held at a later date.
