Horace Alexander Dyer, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at the age of 70, in Macon, GA. Born in Fort Valley, Georgia, on Saturday, February 26th, 1955, Horace was a cherished member of his community who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Horace proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of perseverance and dedication. After his military service, Horace embarked on a distinguished career as a Senior Superintendent at CW Mathews, where he was known for his tireless work ethic and sharp wit.
A man of many talents, Horace found joy in woodworking, cultivating his garden, and spending tranquil days fishing. His craftsmanship and love for the outdoors were known to his friends and family, with whom he generously shared his skills and passions.
Alex received a double lung transplant in 2021. He was so grateful to the family that so selflessly donated the lungs. He was blessed to have added four and half more years to his life and to be able to be with his family longer. He was a very strong man and loved his family.
Horace leaves behind his devoted wife of 31 years, Pam Dyer, and a loving family including his beloved bonus daughter, Tammy Dunlap. He is also survived by his brother Daniel (Deborah) Highsmith and sisters Sharon (Wayne) Granade and Betty Sue (Kerry) Moye. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Andrew (Caroline) Dunlap, Tucker Dunlap, and Ethan (Carolina) Dunlap, and cherished his large extended family of uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Horace Alexander Dyer Sr., his mother, Minnie Elsie Highsmith, and his stepfather, Percy Lavelle Highsmith.
A visitation to honor Horace's life will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at FairHaven Funeral Home in Macon, GA. This will be followed by a graveside service at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering his remarkable life and legacy.
