The first time that I met Jim was at a DAR meeting in Manhattan. He was the guest speaker and talked about his experiences serving as a guard during the Nuremberg trials. Jim brought a Nazi flag and a lot of memorabilia. I was totally amazed & since then I had the privilege of attending several of his educational programs and special events, including a Park & Rec bus trip that he hosted about the history of black settlers on the Kaw Indian Reservation after the Civil War .
DAR hosted a program of Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project a Fort Scott Lowell Milken Center project performance in Manhattan. We invited Jim and other WWII veterans to the performance in Manhattan at the MAC. It was very cool when Jim and the other veterans arrived wearing their uniforms - wow, that was very meaningful to see that performance and to have the actual WWII veterans attend.
I really admired Jim - his WWII service and the many ways that he shared his love of history with others.
