We became friends quickly and family in the long run. That was early 90's when we met and suddenly my life had changed. I had met someone who I knew I would know forever. I will always be saddened but this loss. All my love to Gwen and the family

The world lost a beautiful soul; and Heaven gained one. Devastated to find out about the funeral after the fact. Hosee knew he was loved.

Hosea, I´ve been right here what seems like a million times this week..trying to find the words but there are zero words to even describe this loss. You were more than a best friend, you were my brother and will forever be missed but yet I rejoice because I know you are dancing in the fields of grace with Jesus. Rest easy my dearest Hosea. I love you. Mama, sis, and family sending you all the biggest hugs, all the prayers, and all the love.

I´m still struggling to wrap my mind around the fact that I will never see you again, hear you sing again, hear you laugh again. For more than 30 years, you were my friend, my brother, my heart and my rock. When I thought of home, I thought of you. I know you, JH, Brian, your niece and your Daddy are together again, but it never occurred to me that you would leave this earth and we would be left to figure out how to live without you. I will forever miss you and love you until we see each other again, my friend.

My heart is with Ms. Gwen, Sherrell, and the rest of his family, friends and loved ones. I´m so sorry I can´t be there in person today to celebrate Hosea with so many others who loved him.

All my love,
Courtney Shellenbarger

Hosea was my oldest friend, he was like a brother to me. I´m sorry beyond words at your loss. I hope you take some comfort in knowing that he left a huge mark in this world, he made friends wherever he went and his energy was infectious. He lit up the room when he was on. I will miss my dear friend. My deepest condolences to your family.
Love,
JC

RIP Hosea "Sweets" Smith!

My earliest performance memories go back to sharing the stage with Hosea in the early 80s. The Stationary Marching Vocal Band. The Funk Brothers. Hosea always had a voice to envy, and his stage presence was brilliant even then! His big heart and bright smile lightened our world while he was here.

Hosea, old friend, you will be missed by so many! Keep shining!

You will be missed. Having you at the office over the years made the workday significantly more enjoyable. I'll miss swapping stories and listening to you serenading us at the top of your lungs when the office was empty!

I worked with Hosea for a number of years. His absolute joy and light left an everlasting impression on me. When I think of him I think of singing and trying to put out as much positive energy in the world as humanly positive. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Hosea was kind to everyone he met, and his presence made the world a little better. He was gone far too soon, and I wish I´d had the chance to reconnect. He will be remembered

Hosea, my brother, my friend. I'm at a loss for words. I'm still in disbelief that you are not longer here with us. I will definitely miss our conversations we had about past and present ventures. Rest easy brother, tell Brian, your dad, and John hi, and dont be up there having my granny make you a pineapple upside-down cake. I know you will party up there in heaven like you did down here on earth. Love you Stephanie

Hosea... the world is a darker place without your happiness, smile, & love with us physically.

Saddens me that we won't be able to take the camping trip we discussed

Give my love to Brian & John.

Rest In Peace Brother, until we meet again.

Cousin
I´m not sure what to say accept I love you. This is really hard for me to write because I´m trying really hard to understand this, but it´s not meant for me to understand why God called you home. Just know that you were very much loved. I will miss your random off the wall phone calls and texts, but it was your turn to answer Gods call.

Love Always and Forever

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4
Hosea´s light touched so many lives, and his memory will continue to shine. Gwen, family, and friends, my prayer is that you find strength in the love and support surrounding you.
