Howard Affeldt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home - Chambersburg on Mar. 15, 2026.
Howard French Affeldt "Frenchie", was born on September 20, 1939 and died on March 13, 2026. He was born in Ellicott City, Maryland to the late Albert and Carolyn Affeldt.

Frenchie was preceded in death by foster mom Ms. Day, siblings Hilda, Sonny, Doris, and Mary; his son Bigie Lee; and many other loved ones. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years Dixie Ann Affeldt, daughters Angie and Sherry, sons Scott and Hookie, daughter-in-laws Sherry and Tashia, grandchildren Bailey, Cassie, Chelsea, Brittnee, Emma, Dametreise, and Kipp among others; as well as several great grandchildren and other relatives.

He was raised in Dayton, MD in the '40s and '50s and grew up doing farm work and learning how to fix, build, and drive just about anything. We loved to hear about his life in Dayton and Ellicott City. He made it sound perfect even though his life was very hard sometimes. He joined the Army in 1957 and spent time in Germany as a Combat Engineer. He also boxed while he was in the Army and became Company Champion. He was a great mechanic and a great carpenter. He enjoyed racing and he took his Chevy Nova to the track many times. He rooted for the Orioles and the Ravens. When the Colts were in Baltimore he liked to watch them play at Memorial Stadium. He enjoyed music and attended many bluegrass festivals as well as country and some rock and roll concerts. He loved being Pop Pop. He watched westerns regularly. He told the best stories, gave great advice, and made everyone laugh. He was hilarious and he was genuine. He was always willing to help family and friends.

Frenchie will be greatly missed by many people.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 725 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg. After the viewing, family and friends are invited to the Mercersburg Moose Lodge, 107 Landis Drive, Mercersburg, PA.
