Authorities are saying little, but rumor is that Howard Brandston had something to do with it. I will miss you, old friend.

I remember my father talking about Howard and how proud he was of his innovative ideas. We read the obituary in the NYTIMES and were honored to see my father´s name mentioned.
Our deepest condolences.

I have many fond memories of Howard. He worked with my dad, Richard Roth Jr., of Emery Roth & Sins in many projects. My dad passed away this past October so hopefully they are collaborating on some project.

I had the pleasure of working with Howard when our paths crossed at the RPI Lighting Research Center in 2000. My impression was that Howard´s students greatly appreciated his wit, knowledge, and ability to engage aspiring lighting designers.

Howard and I came to the lighting world along different paths: Howard was an artist who used light to paint the world; I am an engineer who designed light sources, some that Howard liked and some he despised. I encourage those who have not yet done so to read his book: "Learning to See, A Matter of Light."

I maintained contact with Howard after we had both left the LRC, usually through chance meetings at the annual Light Fair trade shows. He was always warm and eager to talk.

Howard will be missed by the entre lighting community. I send my condolences to his family.

I was blessed to visit Howard in December 2022 and share a few precious minutes together. The losing of one´s memory is sad but I reminded Howard that his memories with be carried on by all the students he has inspired over the years. We teach what he taught us everyday - to be the best we can and inspire a love of life and light! I will carry his candle always!

Howard was a force, a character, a friend, a fellow fighter for our community, and, unbeknownst to me at the time, a neighbor when we were both growing up in Brooklyn and his brother Andy and I were classmatess and friends. He would have wanted nothing to do with me anyway; I was just a kid. I´m so glad that I got to know him decades later, and will miss him in the world he tried to make better, often succeeding.
