Howard Jay Dalrymple

1940 - 2025

Howard Jay Dalrymple, 85, of Fort Madison, passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025 at The Kensington.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1940 in Fort Madison, to Jay E. and Bernice V. Sharp Dalrymple. He worked in the press room at the Daily Democrat for 43 years and previously ran a concession business with his brother, Wilbur. He enjoyed collecting and working with old printing presses and loved to work on the farm with his cows and horses.

Howard is survived by: a son, Jay (Darlene) Dalrymple of St. Jacob, Ill.; four daughters: Carmen Vancil of Salem, Diana Strode of Centerville, Lori Darrow of Potosi, Mo. and Barbara (Joe) Lake of Fort Madison; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren with another one on the way, and a great-great-granddaughter with another one on the way; a brother, Wilbur Dalrymple of Fort Madison and a sister Mary Alice Woods of Fort Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Esther Drollinger and Velda Mae Fritzjunker.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, 10-11:30 a.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.
