Howard J. Doxsey Sr. HYDE PARK Howard J. Doxsey Sr., 78, of Hyde Park, died Monday, June 19, 2006 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. Mr. Doxsey was a rural letter carrier for the Arlington Branch of the U.S. Post Office for 25 years. Prior to that, he worked as a dock foreman for the former Western Printing for 33 years. He was a member of the Western Retirees; a member of the 5 D's Bowling Team, which included his father, Robert and brothers, Bob, John and Richie and of course Howard; and a member of the Beacon Bears SemiPro Football Team. A member of the Dutchess County Old Timers Baseball Association, he was elected to and inducted into the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame as a first baseman with the Poughkeepsie Pioneers and the Millerton Red Sox. Howard, an avid fisherman, was known in his family as "the greatest catcher of the smallest fish" and when he would catch one, he would shout "net". Born Oct. 24, 1927 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Robert and Marion Cullen Doxsey. On Oct. 18, 1954 in St. Joachim's RC Church, Beacon, he married Catherine Moran. Mrs. Doxsey survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, Cathy and her husband, Robert Bullwinkle of Utica; Debbie Doxsey of Fayetteville, N.Y.; Howie Doxsey Jr. and his wife, Eileen of Pleasant Valley; Richie Doxsey and his wife, Chrissy of Poughkeepsie; Donna Doxsey McGrew and her husband, Dave of Connecticut; nine grandchildren, Chris, Michael, Kristin, Heather, Kayla, Steven, Shaun, Brian and Jillian; a great-grandson, Austin and a great-granddaughter, Ryley Marie due to arrive in August; two brothers, Robert of Newburgh; and William of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, June 23, at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be 8 p.m, during the calling hours. Deacon Frank Gohl will officiate. In accordance with Mr. Doxsey's wishes, he will be cremated. Memorial donations in Howard's name may be made to Dutchess County Old Timers Baseball Association, c/o Charles Theiss, 50 Cherry Lane, Fishkill, NY 12524. The Doxsey family would like to thank Dr. Zaman and his nurse, Susan and Ferncliff Nursing Home, especially the 4th Floor, for their care and support.
