Howard C Forman passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in Pembroke Pines Florida, at the age of 77. Howard was an innovator in the field of Broward politics, who frequently worked to develop and pass legislation to advocate for people with disabilities, veterans, and the elderly. He was also passionate about preservation of the environment and creating an inclusive community for families to live and grow. He was respected and loved by all he touched.
Howard was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Esther and Isadore Forman. He moved to Florida in 1955. At an early age, he became fascinated with Florida's eclectic culture, geography and history. He graduated from Miami Beach High in 1963 and went on to attend the University of Miami. He became a marketing consultant in the stock market.
Inspired by his colleagues in the Hallandale community, Howard went on to become a fixture in Broward County politics for more than three decades, starting out as a Hallandale city commissioner in 1973, before he became a Broward County Commissioner. He then went on to become a Florida state senator, representing cities in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, before becoming the Broward County clerk of court in 2000. He retired in January of 2017.
Howard's legacy will forever be honored through the development and naming of the Howard C Forman Human Services Center and Howard Forman Health Park, both located in Pembroke Pines. The campus provides health care, community services, educational resources, and low-cost housing serving children, families and seniors of southeast Florida. The Howard C Forman Human Services campus embodies all of the values Howard fought for throughout his career.
Howard was a dedicated and loving father and stepfather. He is survived by his two daughters, Iris Forman and Rosette Forman, (and his son-in-law Troy Wrigley), his stepson Todd Stone (and his wife Lisa Stone, and their children Marissa Kopel and Stephanie Stone), and his stepdaughter Michelle Sturdivant, (and her wife Shelley Sturdivant, and their children Brook and Brady Sturdivant).
Howard had a genuine love for local sports, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins, Miami Heat, the Florida Panthers, and all University of Miami sports. He also had a passion for music and loved to sing and dance with his family and friends. Howard was also well-known for his love of spicy exotic foods and loved to take culinary adventures that created unforgettable memories that his friends, colleagues, and families.
