Howard Haight Obituary
Howard Haight, 71 of Brownsburg, Indiana, passed away on December 13, 2023. The following is an obituary written by his loving wife, Kathy.
Howard Haight was born and raised in Pomona, California, and he lived in Southern California 54 years before moving to Brownsburg 17 years ago.
He grew up in Pomona, California, about a mile from the drag strip. He went to his first race when he was nine. He worked on a few cars until 1971, when the opportunity came up for a ride. He got his NHRA license in one weekend and started driving the following weekend. He drove at least one car each year until the end of 2019. He had his NHRA license for 51 years.
He started at the Top Fuel (both front engine and rear engine). He also drove fuel altereds for a while. He has driven at tracks from Epping, New Hampshire to Lynn's in California, and many tracks in between. He was very successful, winning numerous races with NHRA and Goodguys.
He was also a painter and a machinist by trade. He was also an advanced scuba diver.
Howard is survived by his wife, Kathy Haight; his older brother, John Haight of Lewistown, Montana; his younger sisters, Vicki Guger of Dallas, Texas and Jean Nielsen of Elkhart, Indiana; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rachel Byron (Henry), who passed in 2011; his father, Albert Haight, who passed in 1985; and his older sister, Nancy Smith, who passed in 2010.
Howard's life will be celebrated with private services at a later date.
