Howard Duane Lambein 73, died Thursday, March 5, 2026 at home, with his son Alex present.
He was born May 29,1953 in Genessee County, NY. Howwie was the son Earl D. and Helen Lambein of Stafford/Morganville, NY.
Growing up rural, I had a terrific childhood. My Dad, known as Shadow, showed/taught me fishing at an early age of five, and I was free to go to Calls pond for Pan fish, Catfish and Bass.
My Mom was the greatest mom ever and being the youngest with 3 siblings, I was a bit spoiled. Anything for her children and later grandchildren, that was my Mom.
Hunting was next. We raised English Setters and the pheasant hunting was after school and all week- ends. The pheasants were everywhere and our dogs were great at pointing. The dogs made great house pets, too. Next was ducks, geese and White tails. Fishing was number 1 with me. Walleye in the Finger Lakes and later Quebec was always the fish we were after. My Mom went on trips to Ontario with Dad and friends and they brought home a lot of dinners.
Employment around there was easy to get. Farm work, no dairy for me for me. Weed pulling, potatoes, and later hay bailing at a dollar and hour, all of us kids had money.
After graduating from LeRoy HS.in 1971, my dad got me employment with Stromberg-Carlson
Rochester, NY, maker of all things in the telephone business. I received in- plant training and after 6 weeks, I was a field tech/installer I was assigned to the North East Division. 6 states, with 2 years in Maine. Great fishing up there and cold. Brook trout and salmon were A+. The layoffs started in 1975-76. Enough travel for me.
I enlisted in USAF in 1977. My dad "your too old" wasn't true. After training I was assigned to Plattsburg AFB in the maintenance field on the FB-111 Simulator. While there I met and married my formal wife, Sgt Joyce Mhalmann, an Air Traffic Controller, we soon had our first boy, Kurtis James. After a bit, Alex was next. I ended my enlistment and was discharged in 1987. I took employment with Link Flight Simulators
Binghamton, NY as a field service technician at Plattsburg AFB, same job different clothes. Same job but a lot more enjoyable. Link is the leader in The Flight Simulator Business and the best company that I have ever worked for.
In 1990 Joyce got orders to Andersen AFB, Guam. Off we go for a 2-year vacation! I gained employment with AAi on the B52 flight simulator. While there I took up Scuba diving with my coworkers and we did a lot of it. In 1991, my mom and older sister, Linda, came for a visit and we had a grand time. In 1992, Joyce got orders to Whiteman AFB, MO with the B-2 bomber. I took employment back with link but had to do 2 years in NM and OKLA and finally got an opening at Whiteman with LINK on the B-2 Flight simulators where I retired after 32 years of broken service.
Welcome to Show Me State. Love it and the hunting and fishing are A++. First Gobbler and my best was a 26 pounder. Lots of deer and took up Crappie fishing. Chased after the Walleye and a buddy caught a 15". After Alex gave up on that pursuit. And settled on crappie. The Boys took up both sports and Alex was the Deer stalker. Our best time was camping/canoeing on the Niangua with Timmy, our best friend.
Howie is survived by son Kurtis James, wife Amy, granddaughter Nancy Kate of Tyler, TX and son Alex(USAR/Ret)and my best friend and caretaker of the home. Loved by his sisters Linda Kanaley of Conesus Lake, NY and Kay Miggins of
Leroy, NY, deceased brother Jimmy and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
