Howard Sanford, M.D. was born in Floral Park, New York in 1933. A graduate of Columbia School of Pharmacy, he went on to obtain his MD from Northwestern University Medical School. Internship was at Philadelphia General Hospital and residency at the University of Michigan. In 1962, he became a "fellow" in cardiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He practiced internal medicine and cardiology in North Miami Beach for 30 years which was interrupted by a two year tour of duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He served as Lieutenant Colonel and Cardiology Consultant for the whole Fist Army. After retirement, he spent 19 years as a physician in the Student Health Service of FIU.
Over the years, he volunteered as a physician for the government on Indian reservations and local medical clinics for the homeless.
He had many interests, his hobby of automatic mechanical music culminated in a large collection of self-playing organs. In his enthusiasm for classical music, he and his wife hosted many pianists performing locally and also those for the Chopin International piano competitions. Travelling was another favorite activity including trips to India, China, Russia and Israel where he served with Sar El, the volunteer organization of the IDF.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, two sons, Allan and Steven (Heather) Sanford, 6 granddaughters and his sister, Arlene Horlick. Through all of his achievements, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was loved by all and will be truly missed.
The family requests donations be made in memory of Dr. Howard S. Sanford to Temple Sinai of North Dade, www.tsnd.org. Chapel Service wil be held on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 10:00 am at Levitt-Weinstein Beth David Memorial Chapel, 3701 N 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33024. We met Howard and Margery thru the MBSI. We hit it off immediately maybe thru their experience in the military. And enjoyed talking to Howard about his experiences on the Indian Reservation. Just a wonderful guy who will be greatly missed.

Dr, Sanford will surely be missed. He was a super kind, sweet and generous man who always had a "twinkle" in his eye.
