Mr. Howard J. Sprankle, 84, of 214 Highland Avenue, Waynesboro, PA entered into eternal life around 1:31 P.M., Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Chambersburg Hospital. He was born of September 6, 1929 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Luther J. and Bessie M. (Hurd) Sprankle. He lived his early life in Hagerstown, attending the Hagerstown schools. Mr. Sprankle served in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving in Japan and Korea. Howard and his late wife, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt (Henson) Sprankle were married on March 5, 1954 in Calvary Assembly of God Church of Waynesboro. They moved to the present residence in 1985. After 53 years of marriage, his beloved wife Eleanor died on January 26, 2007. Mr. Sprankle was employed in his early life by Waynesboro Shoe Factory for 17 years. Prior to retiring in 1995 he worked at Landis Machine Company, Waynesboro in the heat treating department for 28 years. Howard was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Waynesboro. Mr. Sprankle was a true man of God and faith; he was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He so loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Sprankle is survived by a son, Howard L. Sprankle of Waynesboro, one daughter, Christine K. Tracey, husband Elwood of Waynesboro, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, Harry G. Sprankle of Hagerstown and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Erma Weaver and 4 brothers, Charles Sprankle, Carl Sprankle, Omer Sprankle and Richard Sprankle. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in Calvary Assembly of God Church, 116 Snider Avenue, Waynesboro with Pastor Dawn N. Newsome officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard from Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Calvary Assembly of God Church, 116 Snider Avenue Waynesboro, PA 17268.
