Howard Stokes

On the afternoon of Friday, November 14, 2025, Howard William Stokes died peacefully at Gilchrist Center Howard County, Columbia, MD after a brief illness. He was a veteran of World War II, and was employed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for more than 37 years. He worked as a streetcar cleaner, mechanic helper, streetcar operator, and bus operator, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the American Legion and the Howard County Branch of the NAACP. He voluntarily delivered food and supplies to many in the Baltimore Metropolitan area and beyond. His generous and caring spirit will be missed by all. His wife of 65 years, Jane, preceded him in death in 2022. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Allyson, and a host of other relatives and friends. All services will be held at the Community Baptist Church, 7344 Cedar Avenue, Jessup, MD 20794. Visitation, Friday, November 21, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Visitation, Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment at Maryland National Cemetery.
