Houston M. Shannon Jr.

Houston M. Shannon, Jr., age 87 went to be With the Lord after a lingering illness on Sunday, August 25, 2013. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, retired business man of Morgan County, served serveral terms as trustee of Morgan County and was also a master wood craftsman. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna Woods Shannon, his parents, Houston M. Shannon Sr. and Ethel Shannon Kries and sister Ellen Shannon. He is survived by his two daughters and their families: Sandy and Steve Shirks, Doris and Roy Langley. He is also survived by sisters, Lillian Oney and Mary Newberry. He is survived by five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Granddaughters, Stephanie Vespie and husband Joe, Shannon Joanna Shirks and Whitney Shirks, Grandsons, John Langley and wife Melissa and Nathaniel Langley and wife Devon. His nine great grandchildren brought him much joy. He will be missed by all nine, Stephen Nance, Makayla and Jess Langley, Luke, Ezekiel and Emily Vespie, Jackson and Warren Langley and especially his "MagPie" Maggie Shirks. He had many very special friends that he loved dearly. The family will receive friends Tuesday August 27, 2013 from 12:00 to 2:00pm at Schubert Funeral Home Wartburg. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00pm with Bro. Roy Langley and Bro. David Goodman officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
