Hoyt Paul Brittain, 46, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025 at his residence.
He was born in Burke County on March 26, 1979. Known as a hard worker, Hoyt worked as a farmhand for many years. Fishing was a favorite pastime of his. A music lover, Hoyt was a faithful fan of Hank Williams, Jr. He enjoyed simple pleasures such as classic cars, car shows, and fried bologna and livermush sandwiches. His family, however, was most important in his life, and he especially adored his daughters. He lovingly took after his father in many of his traits. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Benfield Regan; brother, Travis Paul Brittain; paternal grandparents, Paul Henry Brittain and Dallas Brittain; and maternal grandfather, T.J. “Bud” Benfield.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Teresa Jones Brittain (fiancé, Cole Carter); his daughters, Ashley Brittain; her fiancée, Austin Miller and Harley Brittain; his fiancé, Traci Haney; step-children, Caitlin Reinheardt (Dustin), Gavin Guinn, and Allen Guinn; three step-grandchildren; his dad Barry Brittain; six siblings, Brandon Brittain, Chris Benfield (Jess), Paula Ellis (Jeremy), Davina Evans (Ray), Doug Benfield, Donnie Benfield (Sandra), and Jason Williams; maternal grandmother, Qutina Benfield; a special sister, Bonnie Flory (Johan); several cousins including a special cousin, Melissa Clark; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
In accordance with his wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Carolina Caring Hospice for the care provided to the Brittain family over the last six months. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carolina Caring by visiting www.carolinacaring.org/give.
