Hoyt Mitchell Padgett, 75, of Batesburg, SC, passed away on December 25, 2024. Born on May 27, 1949, in Batesburg, SC, he was a son of the late Curtis Harmon and Rosa Leila Matthews Padgett. Hoyt was a proud graduate of Saluda High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. An avid Clemson fan, Hoyt loved cheering on the Tigers, but he found his greatest joy in spending time with his beloved family. His devotion to his grandchildren was unwavering, attending their activities with the utmost pride and enthusiasm. His family was his heart, and their activities were always a priority. He was a founding and faithful member of Celebration Church, where his presence will be sorely missed.
Hoyt is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Deborah G. Padgett, who shared a lifetime of memories and joy with him. His legacy lives on through his two adored daughters, Joy Burge and Kara Prouse (Jason), and his four cherished grandchildren, Jensis Prouse, Melodee Prouse, Izzy Prouse, and Hoyt "Charlie" Burge. He is also survived by his siblings, Joyce Easler, Dock Padgett, Jerry Padgett, and Rufus Padgett. Hoyt leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will continue to carry his memory forward.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Wilson Padgett; and his siblings, Sandra Cochran, Roy Padgett, and C.H. Padgett.
The service of Celebration will be held at 1 o'clock, Monday, December 30th at Celebration Church officiated by Rev. Joseph Hallman and Rev. Jamison Bowman. Burial will follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 o'clock on Sunday, December 29th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Celebration Church's Child Youth Department, 6551 Batesburg Highway, Batesburg, SC 29006.
