Hubert Bodenhorn Obituary
January 7, 1937 - July 31, 2024
On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Hubert Newell Bodenhorn, loving husband, father of three and grandfather of two, passed away at the age of 87 and went to his heavenly home with his Lord. Hubert was born January 7, 1937 to Lowell Bliss and Nadine (Ralya) Bodenhorn. He was raised in Lapel, Ind., graduated from Lapel High School in 1955 and Purdue University in 1959 with a degree in agronomy. He worked for Dekalb, Allied Chemical and Arcadian, later Potash Corporation, jobs that took him from Lubbock, Texas to Richmond, Va. and several points in between. On August 4, 1956, he married Barbara Joanne White. They raised three sons. He was a member of Second Branch Baptist Church, Chesterfield, Virginia. Hubert had a passion for model trains, Purdue basketball and summers in Michigan. He cherished summer days in Mackinaw City, and savored days spent walking the beaches of Lake Superior around Copper Harbor looking for agates, snacking on wild blueberries and thimbleberries, avoiding bears, and reveling in cool late summer breezes coming off the lake. He and Barbara spent their anniversaries there when they could. Hubert was a skilled woodworker and cabinetmaker, and for a period turned his hobby into a vocation.
A memorial service will be held at Second Branch Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Va., on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 5 p.m. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to Second Branch Baptist Church in Hubert's name. Survivors include his wife Barbara; sons, Howard, Dean and Duane; granddaughter, Hannah Bodenhorn; grandson, Sammy Bodenhorn; daughter-in-law, Pam (Kolek) Bodenhorn; granddaughter-in-law, Breanna (Walker) Bodenhorn; and nephew, Larry Hall.
