Hubert Lamar Bowman, 96, of Pelahatchie, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant of God, Hubert’s legacy is one of faith, hard work, and quiet strength.
Born on May 8, 1929, in Antioch, Mississippi, to Oscar and Alice Bowman, Hubert grew up in a loving and close-knit family. He was one of seven children and was preceded in death by his brothers G.B., Elbert, and Virgil Bowman, and his sisters Velma, Willie Jewel, and Daisy. From an early age, Hubert learned the value of diligence, hard work and humility—qualities that would define his entire life.
Hubert’s devotion to family was unwavering. He was first married to Grace Bowman, the love of his life for almost 45 years, until her death in 1992, and later he married Betty Joyce Bowman, who survives him and they have enjoyed 32 loving years together. Hubert worked to lead his family home grounded in faith, kindness, respect for others and modeled a life grounded in love, respect, and faith. Hubert leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in his children, Glenda Davis (Joe), Vic Bowman (Martha), and Max Bowman (Alison)—who will remember him as a steadfast guide and unwavering source of wisdom and quiet encouragement. His family was always the joy of his life, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and shared values.
He is also survived by his stepchildren, Tommy Rhodes (Kathy), Alvin Rhodes (Penny), and Phil Rhodes (Renea); grandchildren, Curt Davis (Kathy), Jenni Lambert (Chris), Swayze Bowman (Sarah), Hayes Bowman (Elizabeth), Grace Martinez (D.J.), Robbie Rhodes, Nathan Rhodes (Elizabeth), Matthew Rhodes (Brooke), Ches Rhodes, Tyler Rhodes, Carly Bounds, Benjamin Rhodes, Ella Rhodes, and Courtney Lanthrip; and great grandchildren, Alex Davis (Kylee), Luke Davis, Kasey Jones (Thomas), Kayla Bryant, Cate Bowman, Max Bowman, Hal Bowman, Hugh Bowman (Hubert Lamar Bowman II), Judah Martinez, Alynn Martinez, Raelyn Jones, and Melody Sims.
An active member of Antioch Baptist Church, Hubert served as a Deacon, always leading by quiet example and steadfast devotion. He also took part in the Masons and the Gideons, lending his time and effort to better his community and spread the Word of God. Hubert’s presence was a cornerstone in church life, where his humility and kindness touched many hearts.
A true outdoorsman, Hubert found joy in tending to his vegetable garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and neighbors. He also loved to spend time hunting and enjoying the simple pleasures of life among loved ones. His favorite moments were those spent surrounded by family, laughing, working, and offering his quiet encouragement.
Those who knew Hubert will remember him as a quiet, strong, and humble leader—a man whose faith guided his every step and whose hands were never idle. His enduring example of love and diligence will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

As his family reflects on a life well-lived, they recall his favorite scripture, which perfectly captures his spirit: **Colossians 3:23 — “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men.”*
