HUBERT HENDERSON Obituary

HUBERT HENDERSON Hubert "Max" Henderson was born on December 23, 1928, to Hubert Leroy and Frieda Margarite (Ellabarger) Henderson and passed away on November 12, 2025. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Jane Hawkins, on January 21, 1950, and they shared 75 years together. Max graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1947 and attended Purdue University for a time. From an early age, Max demonstrated a passion for agriculture. He became a lifelong farmer in Tipton County. He also spent much of his lifetime on the family farm in the Texas panhandle. In early childhood, Max would ride the combine in a wooden box beside his father in the dusty Texas wheat fields. He quickly became adept and preferred to operate the machinery himself. After his brother Tom settled into the Texas farm operation, he continued to travel out to assist with wheat harvest. Max worked at John Deere stores in Tipton and Kokomo and was actively involved in his community, serving in the US Army, the Tipton County Sheriff's Merit Board, Sharpsville American Legion, Sharpsville Volunteer Fire Department, Sharpsville Lions Club, Sharpsville United Methodist Church, Tipton Elks, and was a member of the first Tri-Central School Board. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. Max and Jane enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, Arizona, and were blessed to see five living generations of their family. He is survived by his children, Gae Matchette (Gene) and Monty Henderson (Kandi); grandchildren, Caleb Matchette (Heather), Caylee Ballard (Jason), Austin Henderson (Alandra), Alexandra Al ag (Clinton); great-grandchildren Shyla Conwell (Dylan), Camden Matchette, Noah Ballard, Beckett Ballard, Crew Ballard, Turner Henderson and Wells Henderson; great-great-grandchild Deacon Conwell; siblings, sister Virginia Chambers, brother Fred Henderson, sister-in-laws, Helen Henderson and Julia Jane Faulkner; in addition to many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane, brother Tom Henderson, sisters-in-law Mary Louise Hawkins and Margaret "Peg" Hawkins, and brother-in-law Wendell Chambers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton, with funeral services on Wednesday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home followed by burial at Sharpsville Cemetery. Online condolences for Max's family may be left on his obituary page at www.young-nichols.com. The family expresses gratitude to the caretakers at Autumnwood Village Assisted Living Community and staff at IU Tipton and Fishers Hospitals. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sharpsville Volunteer Fire Department, 158 W. Vine Street, Sharpsville, Indiana, 46068.
