Obituary published on Legacy.com by Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. - Jackson from Dec. 31, 2025 to Jan. 8, 2026.
Mr. Hubert Miller, affectionately known as "Fish," passed away peacefully at the VA Community Living Center following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 9, 1953, in
Jackson, Mississippi, to Ruth Miller and George Stutts Jr. Hubert was a man of grit, unmistakable style, and a relentless hustle.
A 1972 graduate of Lanier High School, Hubert's life was shaped by service and hard work. After serving his country in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany, he returned home with a determination to build his life. For 20 years, he worked as an Interior Carpenter, sharing his craft alongside his cousin, Frank Dixon, at Dixon's Interiors. Hubert was respected for his skill, and he took quiet pride in his craftsmanship.
Throughout his life, Hubert held many roles. He was the father of two sons and one daughter, and he was an active presence in the lives of his stepchildren, whom he helped raise. From his years with his former wife to the life he built with his wife, Jennifer, whom he married on June 9, 2001, Hubert understood the value of hard work and providing for a home.
"Fish" was a true fixture in the community, a "hustler" in every sense of the word who was always on the move. He had a spirit that couldn't be kept indoors; he loved being out in the mix, hanging with his friends "out West," and staying connected. Known for his smooth talk and his signature style, he kept the spirit of his love of horses alive by always wearing his cowboy boots and hats. He lived life at his own pace, enjoying Westerns, music, and card games, always moving with a rhythm all his own.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Miller and George Stutts; his brothers, Carl Miller and Vonzell Miller; and his sister, Carolyn Miller.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Jennifer Miller; his children, Hubert Terrell Vaughn (Sandra), Jermaine Jackson, and Hubrina Miller-Hayes (Lee); his stepchildren, Donald Jerome Thompson (Courtney), Darriel Thompson and Amy Thompson; 7 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his brother, Timothy Miller and George Stutts III; and his sisters, Gloria Matlock, Deborah Smith, Cathy J. Carter, Joyonne (Jacob) Tatum, Tammy Fair, and Roslyn (Clint Sr.) Simpson, and Camille Stutts Simms. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
