BROOKSVILLE — Hubert Lee Nickoson was born on June 20, 1937, and passed away at his home on July 3, 2025, after a long illness.
He was the son of Alvin and Callie (Meyer) Nickoson. Hubert married Patricia Audra Thornton on Jan. 7, 1964, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1998.
Hubert grew up during the Great Depression, a time when work was hard to find. In the late 1950s, he began working for Davis H. Elliott, where he cleared the power line for Marble Cliff Quarry, now known as Carmeuse Lime. After finishing that project he was hired at Marble Cliff Quarry, becoming one of the first few employees. He played a key role in constructing the slope to enter the mine, which remains significant to this day. Throughout his career, he took on any job handed to him, and upon retiring at the age of 76, he had accumulated over 58 years of service without missing a single day of work. Hubert famously coined the saying, "zero percent Management". He operated the hoist for over 45 years.
Hubert was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Nickoson and William Nickoson, and one sister, Elsie Mae Badgely. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Lee Nelson of Foster; his grandson, Justin (Melissa) Nueby of Foster; three great-grandchildren, Makala Nueby of Foster, Abygail (Eddie) Siebert of Falmouth, and Ethan Nueby of Foster; and two great-great grandchildren, Meredith and Waylon Seibert. He also leaves behind many family members and friends.
In his free time, Hubert enjoyed walking and working around his yard and farm, attending yard sales and flea markets, and he was a devoted family man. After retirement, he volunteered at Canine Creation's Grooming Salon, where he played with the fur-babies and assisted his daughter. Hubert had a strong faith in Jesus and was baptized at the age of eight in the Ohio River.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home in Brooksville. Burial will be at Lenoxburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 11-1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
