Hue Thi Nguyen passed away on October 7, 2024 joining her beloved mother and brother. Beloved mother of Nhu-Y Dao (husband, Christopher Hanson), Anh-Tuan Dao, and Mickey Dao. Hue is survived by many loving family members and friends.
Born on February 2, 1960, during the Vietnam War, to Duc Van Nguyen and Nam Thi Nguyen, Hue was the fourth of ten children. In 1983, she courageously immigrated to the United States with two of her brothers, after spending time in a refugee camp in Hong Kong. She arrived with little more than the clothes on her back, but with determination in her heart.
Despite the challenges of a new country and learning a new language, Hue began studying at Sinclair Community College. However, she made the selfless decision to pause her education and dedicate herself to raising her children. Later, she pursued a career as a nail technician. She worked for nearly 30 years, becoming an adored figure in the community and among her coworkers. To her younger clients, she was a mother figure, and to her older clients and colleagues, she was like a sister. Hue was known for her hard work, often working 10-hour days, six days a week, tirelessly supporting her family. Her generosity knew no bounds—nearly every penny she earned was dedicated to her children and the rest of it to her family in Vietnam, and her friends in the U.S. She was well known to give away her possessions if she knew it would bring joy to her loved ones.
Hue had many talents and passions. She was an extraordinary cook, and despite her long workdays, she found joy in preparing elaborate dishes because she knew she could please her children (and it always pleased her children). Her love for gardening and plants was a testament to her nurturing spirit. She cultivated a bountiful garden each year and her indoor plants thrived, even in the winter. Flowers of every kind brought her great joy, especially as her daughter grew to share this passion.
Hue was kind, soft-spoken, and generous, but above all, she fiercely loved her family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She will be deeply missed.
