Hugh James Davis (JD), 80, of Altona, passed away on October 19, 2024 after a long and fulfilling life.
JD was born on September 3, 1944, to Norman and Ruth (Tamlyn) Davis in Livingston County, where he grew up in Howell and attended school.
JD was a commercial truck driver and began by hauling mobile homes in Alabama. After moving back to Michigan hauled gravel and drove cement trucks. After retiring he continued to haul crops for local farmers. Driving was a passion for him.
In 1984. JD married Henrietta Forgar, and they resided in Altona where they raised their children.
He loved his fast cars and his motorcycles. JD enjoyed teaching his children to drive and spent most of his time outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping. JD also belonged to a men's softball league and a bowling league.
He was very well known for his snowplowing business and would be up and running in the middle of the night to plow out commercial lots or personal driveways.
You could regularly find him having coffee most mornings, at Kings Trading Post, shooting the bull and swapping lies with friends. His sense of humor was evident as he was the biggest jokester, and he had a serious love for his dogs and cats.
Hugh James Davis was predeceased by his parents Norman and Ruth Davis; brother, Sam Davis; sisters, Norma Smith, Ruth Ann Markcum, Georgia Butcher. On the same day, his sister, Cecil Huetter, also passed away.
JD is survived by his wife Henrietta; children Jami Davis, Hugh (Patty) Davis, Joel (DeAnna) Davis, Eric Forgar, Brian Forgar; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. Brothers Clay (Carol) Davis, Paul Davis, Richard (Nancy) Davis; Sister Christa (Vincent) Bunch. Many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Hinton Township Hall located at 9013 3 Mile Road, Lakeview, MI 48850
