Hugh Miller Hartzog Jr., 78, went to be with Jesus at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana surrounded by his wife and five children on November 8, 2025. Miller was born April 5, 1947, in Meridian, Mississippi to Hugh Miller Hartzog Sr. and Lois Jane Mills. Miller received his Bachelor of Business Administration followed by his Master of Urban and Regional Planning, at the University of Mississippi, Ole Miss, where he played football for five years. He began his career in City Planning and Urban Development in the Department of Public Works for the City of Baton Rouge in 1973 until his retirement in 2003. After retiring from the City, he worked for the State of Louisiana in the Office of Risk Management.
Miller joined The Chapel on the Campus in 1976 where he became an active member, volunteering through Prison Fellowship, serving as a deacon, leading home Bible studies, and where he met his wife of 43 years. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Windham Hartzog and his five children, Katie Hartzog Simmons (Michael), Karen Hartzog O’Brien (Peter), Carole Hartzog Bourey (Guillaume), Nathan Hartzog (Rachael), and Andrew Hartzog plus nine grandchildren. Visitation will be held at The Chapel on the Campus, 3355 Dalrymple Dr. 70802, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 12:30pm followed by a 2:00pm service.
