Hugh M Todd, Jr. (Jack) passed away on February 1, 2025, at Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Dyersburg, TN at the age of 100. Jack was born on January 8, 1925, in Dyersburg, TN. He was the son of the late Hugh (Jack) and Louise Todd.
Jack was the Salutatorian of his graduating class in 1943. He joined the
Army Air Force after graduation and remained enlisted until his discharge as a Second Lieutenant Pilot in 1945. He attended Georgia Tech from 1945 to 1948 where he received his Engineering Degree and was the President of the Student Body as well as President of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Jack was at Dyersburg Cotton Products for 44 years. He was named President in 1981 and served in that capacity until 1989 when he was appointed Chairman of the Board. He also served as Chief Executive Officer from 1987 to1990. His volunteer roles included serving on the Board of Education for the Dyersburg City School System where he was the Chairman of the Board for over 8 years. While Chairman of the School Board, he led the school system through desegregation. Also, he served as the Chair of the Dyersburg State Community College Foundation. Jack was an active member of the First United Methodist Church during
his entire life.
In 1949, Jack married Elizabeth Dubose Hoff. They were married for 57 years before her passing in 2006. Jack and Elizabeth had 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In 2013, Jack married Mary
Whelchel Pierce, and his family expanded to include 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Jack loved his family, his friends, his church, and his community with his entire heart. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, hiking, playing tennis, golfing and in his later years, sitting with friends and visiting for hours. He will be missed by all that knew him including anyone that worked at Dyersburg Fabrics while he was there.
Jack is survived by his children, Bet Todd (Bill Wilcox) of Dallas, TX; Kathleen Rose (Phil) of Tucson, AZ; Hugh Todd (Melanie) of Dyersburg, TN; his grandchildren, Clay Condon (Whalin), Amanda Carey (Alex), William Wilcox (Trish), Ellen Wilcox (Conor McNulty), and Hunter Todd (Aricka); his great-grandchildren, John and James Condon, Kinsley and Jack Carey, and Eloise Wilcox. The Pierce Family –Frank Pierce (Melinda) of Jackson, TN; David Pierce (GiGi) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Mark Pierce (Mary) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Frank's children – Will (Chandler), John and Sarah Pierce; David's children – Jordan, Mary Gates (Wade) and Callie Pierce; Mark's children – Mary McKennon, Garland, Foster and Walker; great-grandchildren – Rylan Brooke and Emmi.
Following a private family interment, the family will receive friends Saturday, February 8, 2025, beginning at 12:00 noon until service time in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Dr. Mary Beth Bernheisel.
Clay Condon, William Wilcox, Hunter Todd, Frank Pierce, David Pierce and Mark Pierce will serve as pallbearers.
