In Loving Memory of Hurshel Gates Craig

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we celebrate the life of Hurshel, who passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at the age of 70. Hurshel was the embodiment of kindness, strength, and grace - a true Southern gentleman through and through. His life reflected his unwavering faith, his deep love for family, and his steadfast sense of honor.

To his beloved wife, Laura, Hurshel was more than a husband – he was her steadfast companion, her partner in all things, and the "Gent" to her "Lady." Together, they shared a bond built on love, respect, and a lifetime of memories.

Daddy to Sherry (Tom) and Dad to Robert, Hurshel was a guiding light - wise, compassionate, and endlessly supportive. To them, he wasn't just a parent- He was their Daddy, their hero, and their rock. That love extended to his cherished grandchildren: Mikey, Kenney (Jessie), Eric (Andrea), and Bethany (Zac aka "Jim Bowie"). Hurshel was extremely proud of his kids and grandkids. There was a very special piece of his heart that was reserved for Jeannie (Bob) also.

To the next generation, Great-Grandpa would smile from ear-to-ear. He dearly loved Tommy, Lillian, and baby Feuge scheduled to arrive in March 2026. His legacy of love, gentleness, and strength will live in their hearts and our many stories.

Hurshel was a devoted brother to his siblings Phyllis, Jenny, Jeff (Velma). He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that Hurshel is now at peace, embraced in the eternal love of Jesus. He was reunited with those who went on before him, his parents Hurshel & Virginia Craig, his sisters Paula, Peggy, Toni and his brothers Don and Mark.

Hurshel's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, and love. He touched everyone he met with his generosity of spirit, his humility, and his unshakable devotion to those he held dear. His memory will live on through his family, who will carry forward his values, lessons, and boundless love.

The family invites friends and family to a Celebration of Life for Hurshel on November 22, 2025, at the VFW Bruce Post located at 28404 Jefferson Ave, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081, from 11:00-2:00 pm, a light lunch will be served. Please come with a favorite memory or story to share.
