Hyacinth E. Willocks Blake

Hyacinth E. Willocks Blake, 86, of Hartford went to be with her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. Born in Somerton, St. James, Jamaica, West Indies on October 23, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph Willocks and Ena Shaw, she immigrated to London, England as a young woman. After she started a family, Hyacinth sought greater opportunities for her family and moved to the United States in 1968 settling in Hartford. Hyacinth worked hard for many years to support her three sons and her daughter. She held positions at The Travelers Insurance Company and as a certified nursing assistant at Hartford area nursing homes and hospitals. Most of all, Hyacinth will be remembered by her family and friends for the dedication she had to her family and her strong and unshakeable faith and optimism. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Hartford for many years and in recent years she served as an active member at The First Cathedral in Bloomfield. She also attended classed at the Hartford Seminary and received the designation as a Minister. Hyacinth lived her faith and the teachings of Jesus Christ in every aspect of her life. Through her selfless care for her family, the less fortunate, and anyone who needed food or assistance. She regularly took people into her home for a meal or a place to stay and shared the Gospel with them and the saving power of Jesus Christ. She was predeceased by her daughter and best friend, Esther Caroline Blake-Harris in 2014. Hyacinth is survived by her three sons, Winston Blake and his wife Miriam of Windsor, Andrew Lindsay and his wife Sophia of Windsor, and Aston Blake and his wife Karlene of Ellington; ten grandchildren that held a special place in her heart, Brandon, Christian, Gabriella, Anthony, Adam, Chyna, Camryn, Destini, Justin, and Cyana. She also leaves a sister, Vita; and two brothers, Bill and Danny; and a host of other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and her daughter, she was predeceased by three sisters, Lillian, Evelyn, and Carmen. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 12, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 11 a.m., at The First Cathedral, 1151 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
