Ian Scott Davis
September 6, 1953 – April 16, 2025
Ian Scott Davis, a resident of
Raymore, Missouri, passed away in his home on the evening of April 16, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with stage four lung cancer.
Ian was born on September 6, 1953, at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and grew up in New Providence, where he graduated from New Providence High School in 1971. He was an active athlete throughout his youth, participating in football, basketball, and baseball through local recreational leagues.
Following high school, Ian attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida, where he majored in Business. While living there, he began attending a small church called Beaches Chapel, where he found his faith and became a Christian-an experience that deeply shaped the rest of his life.
After graduating, Ian returned to New Jersey and began attending Christian Center in Morristown. It was there that he met Susan Buckingham, who would become his beloved wife. The two were married in 1979, and in 1981, they moved to Lima, New York, where Ian enrolled at Elim Bible Institute to pursue his calling to ministry. Upon graduating, the growing family returned to Christian Center, where Ian served faithfully as an associate pastor.
In 1990, Ian accepted a managerial position with Gallagher Bassett, prompting a move to Missouri, where he and Susan planted deep roots and raised their five children. Their children attended Harrisonville Christian School and later Heartland High School and Academy. The family became dedicated members of First Baptist Church of Belton, where they continue to attend and serve.
Ian spent his life pursuing a deep and unwavering relationship with the Lord. As the spiritual leader of his home, he and his wife were devoted to raising their children in faith, grounding their lives in the truth of God's Word. But Ian's ministry extended well beyond his own family-he dedicated his life to serving others, impacting countless lives through his discipleship, counseling, encouragement, and witness. His heart's desire was simple and powerful: "that all people would be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth." He faithfully guided many men and women toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, always urging them to seek the Lord for themselves. Even in his final days, Ian spoke with conviction and urgency, continuing to share the gospel message with those around him.
Ian also found great joy in watching his children grow-not only in their academics and faith, but especially in their athletic pursuits. He was known by many as the most passionate fan in the crowd, and it became something of a badge of honor to be one of the rare few asked to leave the building for an enthusiastic "fan violation." His spirit and energy were contagious and deeply memorable.
Ian was the son of Edwin and Jane Davis of Montclair, New Jersey, and the youngest of three children. He is survived by his sisters, Lynn Piccoli and Jill Davis. Ian is also survived by Lynn's children, Colin Ekholm and Dori Stroll, and was preceded in death by Lynn's son, Ryan Ekholm.
Ian is also survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan Davis, and four of his five children: Jared Davis; Tori Richman-Lollis and her husband, Steve Lollis; Charity Smith and her husband, Jeremy Smith; and Priscilla Glenn and her husband, Dr. Joseph Glenn. He was preceded in death by his son, Luke Davis, and is survived by Luke's wife, Hope Davis.
He was a proud "PaPa" to ten beloved grandchildren: Zander Richman, Brycen Richman, Arya Smith, Gibson Smith, Elliette Glenn, Jonesy Smith, Evelyn Glenn, Theodore Lollis, Abigail Glenn, and Kinsley Lollis. Ian also leaves behind many extended family members, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.
A funeral service celebrating Ian's life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Belton (Heartland Family Ministries), located at 810 South Cedar Street, Belton, MO.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place at Altona Baptist Church Cemetery, 12468 NE State Route Z, Adrian, MO. A meal will be served immediately following the burial.
Arrangements are under the care of Cullen Funeral Home, Inc., 612 West Foxwood Drive,
Raymore, MO 64083.
Romans 14:7-9
"None of us liveth to himself, and none dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died, and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living."
