Ida Heath Dixon, age 87, of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025. She was born on May 21, 1938, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ida grew up in Knoxville and attended Fulton High School and the University of Tennessee. Her love for the Lord began as a child at Lincoln Park Baptist Church, where she was active in the GAs and developed a lifelong commitment to Bible study. She taught preschool with Knoxville City Schools and later continued her gift for working with children as a substitute teacher. She was especially cherished by the teachers and students at Sallie Zetterower Elementary School in Statesboro. Ida was a devoted football fan who never missed a Georgia Southern home game, where she loved cheering for the Eagles. She was also a lifelong supporter of the University of Tennessee Volunteers, a loyalty that began during her years as a student there. Above all, the greatest joys of her life were her grandchildren and her great-grandson.
Ida is survived by her loving husband, Paul Dixon of Statesboro; her children, Doug and Cindy Dixon, and Amy and Donnie Morgan, all of Savannah; her grandchildren, Katie and Steven King of Cumming, Dylan Dixon of Savannah, J.D. Morgan of Charlotte, Jacob and Maycee Dixon of Sylvania, Dixon Morgan of Savannah, and Tate Dixon of Raleigh; and her great-grandson, Fischer King of Cumming.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 10:00am until 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dave Parker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org
